Reflection & Planning
Updated: Jan 18
I hope you had a great Christmas.
Something I love to do at this time of year is to take some time out to stop and reflect on the year that was and to plan for the year ahead. This year, however, my reflection and planning kicked off a little earlier. At the beginning of this month, my friend, colleague, and time trainer Christie Flora from Flor and Order and I packed our bags and headed to the beautiful San Remo in Victoria for a planning weekend. In San Remo, we were bestowed with stunning views, fantastic weather and some adorable koalas (more on that later).
Our planning weekend kicked off with a reflection. The objective of the reflection was to acknowledge and celebrate our achievements for the past year. Some of my accomplishments for 2020 were:
Becoming a volunteer with the Institute of Challenging Disorganization (ICD)
Completing the ICD Level 2: ADHD Organising Specialist Certificate
Launching the Creating Positive Spaces newsletter
Designing, developing and delivering my first Organising with OneNote for Beginners Workshop
These are just a few things that I'm proud of in 2020.
The reflection also acknowledged some of the challenges of 2020. I pondered on what didn't go well during the year and what things I didn't like doing. Note that this wasn't about dwelling on what went wrong. Instead, it was about reflecting on my mistakes and learning from them. Also thinking about what I can do better and differently in the future. Ultimately, the reflection is designed to make me and my business better.
With the reflection complete, we moved our attention towards planning for the year ahead. And as a Professional Organiser, this is the stuff I love. The planning process involved us tapping into the insights obtained from the reflection and connecting with our values. It focused on creating a plan, setting goals and tasks that aligned to our values and the things we want to achieve both personally and professionally.
Here are some of the things I'm planning for in 2021:
More digital organising services such as:
email and inbox management;
document management for home and office.
More organising with OneNote workshops
Launching the Organising your Emails in Outlook workshop
I will provide more detail about these in 2021.
Our planning weekend is something that I genuinely value as it provides an opportunity to stop and assess what is essential in life and in business. And more importantly, it helps to ensure that I'm working on the things that I genuinely value.
I would encourage you to take time out to stop, reflect and plan. And ask yourself, are you working on the things that matter? What goals are you wanting to achieve, and are you making the time to work on them? Also, please don't wait for the end of the year to do this, make it a routine to check in with your plans and goals regularly. Additionally, you don't need to spend a whole weekend away like Christie, and I did for planning (although it was a lot of fun). You can achieve a lot by simply spending an hour in a cafe planning. I urge you to give this a go.
Now back to the koalas. Our weekend away was not solely focused on planning. We did take some time out to visit a Koala Conservation Reserve on Phillip Island. It was nice to see the koalas up close and in their natural habitat. Here are some photos from our visit.
Take care and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
